Diplocon III

Diplocon is a college sponsored Anime/Gaming convention at a little known Lancaster college called Franklin & Marshall. It's been held once a year, usually sometime around Halloween, for the past four years.

When the convention was just a twinkle in our fearless leader's eye, I was asked (as the only art student in our geeky gang) to come up with a mascot/logo. The popular vote was from something with tentacles but since we were trying to get school funding, I wasn't sure how appropriate that would be. So I compromised. Thus Danny the alligator (no. He is not a dinosaur) and Oliver the plushie octopus (cause plushies are so much less threatening than live animals. ^.~ ) were born.

This version of Danny and Oliver was made for the cover to the third annual Diplocon scheduling booklet. I didn't have time to work on the second year one so the coordinator at the time did a quick coloring of an earlier Danny line-art of mine. I'm not going to post that one. Trust me. You don't want to see it.

This one, though, I'm going to have to say is my favorite. The pose is dynamic, and he looks animated and quite happy. (And I just think that holding the three fingers out like that is just plain cute! ^o^ ) I wish Ollie could have had a bit more exposure in it (I like him a bit more than Danny, for some strange reason...It's not cause of the tentacles, I swear! lol) but I really can't say as I could have done this any better.
