Diplocon IV

Diplocon is a college sponsored Anime/Gaming convention at a little known Lancaster college called Franklin & Marshall. It's been held once a year, usually sometime around Halloween, for the past four years.

When the convention was just a twinkle in our fearless leader's eye, I was asked (as the only art student in our geeky gang) to come up with a mascot/logo. The popular vote was from something with tentacles but since we were trying to get school funding, I wasn't sure how appropriate that would be. So I compromised. Thus Danny the alligator (no. He is not a dinosaur) and Oliver the plushie octopus (cause plushies are so much less threatening than live animals. ^.~ ) were born.

This is the latest incarnation of Danny and Oliver. I will admit to liking how the coloring came out, despite it being so different from my usual style, but I'm not to thrilled with the pose. It's a bit two dimensional compared to Diplocon III's pose. I had a better idea that just wasn't working properly so I had to submit my second choice. (FYI: Ollie is still a plushie....I have no idea why gravity isn't acting as it should and allowing his head to stick up like that.... -.-' Just one of those things, I guess.)

I've offered to draw Danny again next year: 1. If they have Diplocon next year (seeing as all of the remaining original coordinators are graduating this year) 2. If they don't find a new freshman who would rather do the job for me 3. If I can get in for a discount ;-P (that isn't really necessary but I do like being paid for my work). I've got some different ideas already, along with different designs for conbadges, so hopefully they still want their art nerd back even after she's graduated.
